Roman historique de l'écrivaine Simonne JACQUEMARD (1924-2009): "L’exceptionnelle opulence, la sensualité raffinée des Sybaritains étaient devenues proverbiales, quand la cité fut détruite par les habitants de Crotone qu'indignaient trop de cynisme et d’impiété. De Sybaris la fabuleuse on jalousait les terres à blé, les vignobles renommés, les oliviers prospères, le commerce florissant. Le site, une large plaine où coulaient deux fleuves et qu’entouraient de hautes montagnes dominant la rade, était d’une rare majesté. C’est ce qui détermina Hérodote d’Halicarnasse, en train de rédi ger son "Enquête", à entrer dans le dessein de Périklès: relever Sybaris de ses ruines et y faire plus que jamais flamboyer le génie grec.
