8vo., First Edition thus; original series de luxe binding of full maroon leatherette, upper board elaborately blocked and lettered in gilt to an art deco design, back gilt extra, gilt top, radial corners, pictorial endpapers, marker ribbon, upper hinge starting (but binding eintrely sound), backstrip chafed at head and tail else a very good, bright, clean copy. FIRST APPEARANCE IN EVERYMAN. The EL full leatherette binding (1906-c.1917) faithfully reflects the art deco movement of the period. By far the most elegant of all the EL series bindings, it is notoriously fragile and seldom found in bright, sound state as here. VERY SCARCE IN THIS CONDITION. EL 185; Seymour 378.0.

"This is a survey of the world of classcial Greece, its origins and legacy. the book comprises 19 chapters, written by leading scholars from around the world. It covers all the major themes of Ancient Greek history .The book is organized into 4 main parts. It opens with a discussion of the natural environment of the Greek peninsula and the surrounding islands. The second part examines the history of Greece up to the end of antiquity. It moves from the prehistoric and protohistoric periods, through the era of the Bronze Age palace societies - including Knossos and Mycenae - surveying the thousand and more years until the transfer of the Roman Imperial court from Rome to Constantinople.
