Na zijn ontmoeting met Pestalozzi 1746-1827 publiceerde Marc-Antoine Jullien de Paris 1775-1848 in 1812 de meest bekende van zijn pedagogische geschriften: 'Esprit de la méthode d'éducation de Pestalozzi telle qu'elle a été suivie et pratiquée sous sa direction pendant dix années 1806 a 1816 dans l'institut d'Yverdon en Suisse'. De editie van 1812 werd bekend als hét werk over Pestalozzi in een tijd dat het enige Franse document over de grote pedagoog een boek was dat in Lausanne gepubliceerd werd door landgenoot Alexandre Chavannes 'Exposé de la méthode élémentaire de Pestalozzi' 1805. In deze tijd was het onderwijssysteem van Frankrijk - en in het algemeen - gericht op jongeren in quasi-militaire scholen en op kinderen in christelijke scholen geleid door broeders. De eerste editie van het boek van De Paris bleef dan ook nagenoeg onopgeerkt. Deze 2e editie uit 1842 kwam echter op een moment dat men meer bezig was met methodologische problemen en hiermee verkreeg Pestalozzi postuum de erkenning die hij verdient. L. Hachette hardcover
