She discusses the origins of the plan for Indian removal unsuccessful attempts during the Jefferson administration the War of 1812 and removal efforts afterwards with a chapter focusing on John Quincy Adams. Also a complete summation of the difficulties of the fur trade hazards of navigating the Missouri etc. He met Lewis and Clark during their winter among the Mandan. Chardon's journal offers a window into the daily life of a fur trader during the golden age of the American fur trade with insightful description of the Native Americans of the area primarily Mandan but also the Arikaras and Yanktons.
