William Floyd 1734-1821 represented New York in the first and second Continental Congresses. Floyd served on several committees and was a Signer of the Declaration of Independence. He served there through 1776 while his property was destroyed in the Revolutionary War. He fought in a New York militia rising to the rank of Major General. He acquired land on the banks of the Mohawk River after the war though it would be a few more years till he would retire there. In 1789 he was elected to the 1st Congress under the new Constitution serving until 1791. After a term in the New York state Senate he retired to his true passion farming. He died in 1821. First published as a one-volume work in 1730 and significantly expanded in subsequent editions. unknown
