197921jyStaatsdrukker Pretoria 1979. First Edition. Softcover. Good/No Jacket. 640 pages complete. In Afrikaans throughout. Volume 1 only. The Cillie report was in result a remarkably enlightened investigation. The conclusions were not wholly welcomed by the government. It covered events from June 16 1976 to February 1977 and confirmed that the compulsory use of Afrikaans as a medium of instruction in certain subjects at black schools was the immediate cause of the unrest but it blamed the escalating situation of frustration and anger on bungling by education officials and on a lack of police preparedness. However Cillie and his colleagues found the causes of the unrest were to be sought in some of the cornerstones of the apartheid policy. Die Vaderand newspaper once edited by Verwoerd opined that as a document it should be a "revelation" and "compulsory reading" for every white in the country. A lazily stored copy but competent copy. The covers have foxing wear about the edges some creasing from use. They are secure and sure. The papertrims are foxed. Within whilst the contents have some mild evidence of use they are clean clear certain confident bold tidy. Please note that due to the weight of the volume should it be necessary to be posted to outside South Africa extra postage charges may be required. fk.
