Engraved heraldic Frontispiece - Portrait of Judge Croke in first two vols. 2492040; 24700recte70422 pgs.617-620 appear twice; 2861066pages. Handsome & clear black-letter typography with printed side-notes throughout. English translation by Sir Harbottle Grimston Croke's son-in-law with some Latin and law-Fench text. Waterstaining throughout the volumes varying from fairly heavy to very light; two marginal tears w/o loss some old legal marginalia in pencil & in ink the former could easily be erased but some is quite interesting. Tables of Cases and Indices to Legal Principles. Sir George Croke 1560-1642 resisted Royal interference with the Courts in the "Ship Money" tax case he spoke out boldly for Parliament's exclusive right to raise tax. Croke's "Reports" cover the period 1580-1640; Vol.3 which was published first bears a fine Dedication to King Charles II following the Restoration. A poem co-authored by Donald Justice and Robert Mezey. Laid in is a letter from the printer Michael Peich to Donald Justice noting that this is one of three proofs and that Justice should retain one and send the other two back with any corrections or criticism. The letter has a little light foxing. The limited edition that resulted one of 170 copies printed by Peich from Spectrum types on dampened Rives Heavy paper was not issued until four years later 1997. Rare in this format. Binding tight and solid. Afterwards Lee took private aviation lessons at his own expense at the Curtiss Flying school at Miami before being accepted into the pilot-training program of the newly-formed U. S. Naval Reserve Flying Corps. Sworn in the Navy as Seaman 2nd class at the US Naval Yard in Washington DC Lee reported for duty on May 17 1917 at the Curtiss Flying school at Newport News Virginia. To qualify as a pilot Lee completed two months of Ground School during which he learned navigational theory structural mechanics and instrument work. Next came several months of Preliminary Flight training followed by another month of Completing Flight School. By December 21 1917 Lee had successfully completed all of his training as a Naval Aviator # 137 and he was commissioned an Ensign. EB; 8vo 8" - 9" tall . hardcover
