Donald Justice has revised the text for this 1981 edition with a new introduction about the editing of the text by Donald Justice.Spine is very slightly tanned else a fine bright copy. Originally published in 1960 as the 1959 Lamont Poetry Selection being the author's first regularly published book it was extensively revised for this 1981 edition with a new introduction by Justice. This copy is Inscribed by Donald Justice to editor Harry Ford and his wife: "To Harry & Kathleen - happiness forever - Donald Justice. Jan. 1982". Laid into the book is an autograph note by Justice stating in part: "Sorry - but these have come out only in paperback. The Chinese painting is only about 60 or 70 years old but we were much taken with it. I didn't dare choose a wine to leave as token! Last set of keys we'll mail" A nice association copy. Ford was poetry editor of Atheneum publisher of Donald Justice's Selected Poems which won the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry in 1980 and Atheneum with Ford as editor also published two other titles by Donald Justice.
