The coronation of King George V and Queen Mary took place at Westminster Abbey on 22nd June 1911. As part of the coronation celebrations the Festival of Britain was held at the Crystal Palace. The festival included displays of products from the British Empire a historical pageant and athletics tournaments.//Provenance: Lt.-Col. Herbert Alexander St. John-Mildmay was born on 20 July 1836.1 He was the son of Captain George William St. John-Mildmay and Mary Baillie. He married Susan Margaret Stackpole Motley daughter of the American writere and diplomat the Hon. John Lothrop Motley 1814 -1877 on 7 May 1884.1 He died on 21 October 1922 at age 86. Light wear to head and foot of spine but no actual splitting or fraying. 2" closed tear to flyleaf and 1907 ownership signature and date in calligraphy to second page. En-tête de la Préfecture de Police. Lettre demandant des renseignements sur Jean-Baptiste Frédéric Terreux (1813-1863) au directeur général des douanes où il a travaillé en 1840. Ce Terreux sollicite une place auprès de Caussidière le jour-même où il vient d'être nommé préfet de Police, un révolutionnaire qui aura voulu profiter très rapidement des succès de la révolution. La signature est bien entendu précédée de « Salut et Fraternité ». Rare lettre en tant que préfet de Police. [277]

Printed on one side of a 50.5 x 32 cm leaf of wove paper. In fair condition on aged and worn paper folded three times. In relatively small print. Underneath the title by 'Charles T. Ritchie': 'The following instructions for Carriages have been prepared and published in the "London Gazette" of 13th May 1902 by direction of His Majesty's Most Honourable Privy Council and will be strictly carried out by Police'. Eight 'Regulations to be observed on the day of the coronation' follow. Next comes a section headed 'Detail of Regulations for Carriages' in nine parts the last listing in seven columns streets in which barriers will be erected. The final and longest section divided into 22 parts is that of 'Regulations for traffic and to prevent obstructions'. No other copy traced either on OCLC WorldCat or on COPAC.
