Le vite e le leggende dei più famosi banditi vissuti in Sardegna tra la metà dell'Ottocento e gli anni Trenta del Novecento vengono raccontate da Franco Fresi in queste pagine dense e appassionanti. Banditi entrati nella letteratura e passati dalla cronaca alla poesia epica popolare; da quel Giovanni Tolu che ha raccontato le proprie vicende in un famoso libro di Enrico Costa fino a Samuele Stocchino, "la Tigre di Arzana", la cui biografia in ottave si vende ancora durante le feste e le sagre popolari. Tra le figure ricordate dall'autore c'è anche una banditessa del Settecento, nobile di nascita, donna Lucia Delitala, vissuta in un'epoca e in una regione particolarmente travagliate: i primi anni del nuovo dominio dei Savoia nella Sardegna settentrionale. Nell'animato album dei fuorilegge sardi figurano anche l'altera "Sa Reìna", sorella dei banditi Serra-Sanna, che "si muove" a Nuoro alla fine dell'Ottocento, e Paska Devaddis, tragica protagonista della terribile faida di Orgosolo che, fuggita sui monti col fidanzato e morta di stenti, fu trovata vergine dal medico legale che ne esaminò il cadavere riportato nel silenzio della notte nella sua casa deserta.
br. Tre ritratti di banditesse sarde vissute in periodi differenti. Donna Lucia Delitala (Nulvi - Settecento): a capo di un esercito personale imperversò nel nord Sardegna con stragi e razzie. Mai catturata, sparì improvvisamente nel nulla. Ma prima che la sua scomparsa diventasse leggenda ne trovarono il corpo arso nell'incendio di una sua casa, abbracciato stretto a quello di un uomo del quale non si seppe mai niente. Maria Antonia Serra-Sanna (Nùoro Ottocento): detta Sa reina (La regina) per il potere di morte e malefatte esercitato assieme ai fratelli latitanti, Elias e Giacomo. Nel 1899 è condannata a 20 anni di carcere. Recita la sentenza: "Triste figura di donna dal cuore perverso quanto i suoi fratelli, crudele con le vittime, eccitatrice e consigliera con ogni modo possibile dei banditi". Paska Devaddis (Orgòsolo Novecento): indicata fra gli assassini di Antonio Succu nell'ambito della faida (disamistade) che insanguinò dal 1905 al 1917 il paese di Orgòsolo, si diede alla latitanza e morirà di tisi a 25 anni, in una grotta del Supramonte, assistita dal fidanzato e dai banditi. Fu trovata sul tavolo di casa, vestita con il costume della festa.
