Tahir spent 13 years of his life imprisoned due to political reasons and wrote some of his most important novels during this time. Because of financial difficulties, Kemal Tahir wrote pulp fiction novels under pseudonyms (especially novels of Mike Hammer). He also translated Mike Hammer novels and even wrote original new novels for that series. Rare.

The story is told by Wycliffe Kato who had been Assistant Director General of Civil Aviation at the time of his arrest and imprisonment. He tells of his time in custody and how he managed to escape to Nairobi. Very scarce.
