Whiting 1882-1951 was the leader of the American Colony in Jerusalem a Christian utopian community. Henry Morgenthau Sr. served as US Ambassador to the Ottoman Empire from 1913 to 1916 during which he became one of the most prominent critics of the Armenian Genocide. He resigned in protest and returned to America to raise public awareness and funds for Armenian relief. His memoir charts his emigration from Germany to New York as a Jewish child his rise in business and politics and his experience as ambassador. Octavo. Original blue cloth spine and front cover lettered in gilt. Portrait of Morgenthau mounted to the front pastedown later notation to front free endpaper.
