Collapsible globe in 6 gores engraved with hand colouring laid down on thin card each gore 170 x 70 mm irregular; in fine condition with vivid original colour Australia with Terre de Witt Terre d'Eendracht Cape Leeuwin Terre de Nuyts Golfe de Spencer Terre de Van Diemen Detroit de Bass Port Jackson and Sidney Cove all marked; the gores attached to one another with the original tape strips at each side original drawstrings at top and bottom of each gore intact; folding flat within its octavo size instructional booklet pictorial pink wrappers lightly marked fragile stitching with 8 pp of text a section on Oceania on the final page and a double page illustrated with hand-coloured diagrams; all text in French; the booklet overall in very good condition housed within the original pictorial paper covered card slipcase with gold paper edges. A beautiful and delicate pedagogical collapsible globe remarkably well preserved and with its original booklet and slipcase. Apparently unrecorded in Australian collections. Two similar French collapsible globes by Augustin Legrand are held in the collections of the National Library of Australia and State Library of New South Wales. unknown

Paul Lombard est de ces critiques qui comme l’a montré Thierry Laget Proust Prix Goncourt Gallimard 2019 reprochaient à l’Académie Goncourt d’avoir décerné leur prix à un écrivain trop vieux trop riche : "Au lieu de cela cette année le prix Goncourt … échoit à M. Proust qui n’est pas jeune : il a conquis en peu de jours une notoriété dont j’ignore le secret ; le prix Goncourt même s’il l’a mérité ne lui sera d’aucune utilité" déplore-t-il dans L’Homme libre du 11 décembre 1919 p. 2. 028961Paris; 1935 and 1936: Imprimerie Nacionale. Quarto. 2 Volumes in four: Volume 1 in 2 volumes dated 1935 superbly illustrated with 102 gravures and 2 maps. Volume 2 in 2 volumes dated 1936 with 99 gravures and 7 maps. One of the most important military histories of Egypt in the period of Mohammed Aly 1769-1849 who was the Viceroy of Egypt and is often considered the founder of modern Egypt. General Weygand was appointed commander-in-chief of the Levant mandate in Lebanon and Syria. He was appointed High Commissioner of Steria in 1924. Upon his return to Paris before the coming of the Second World War began his extensive study of Mohammed Aly whose major role from the late 18th to the early 19th century was bringing Egypt into the center of Near Eastern politics as it developed a sense of nationalism. All volumes bound green pebble grained cloth centrally stamped with a gilt crest spine lettering gilt a couple of tiny nicks to spine of one volume front free endpapers of two volumes with a light crease. A very good set. There is a notice tipped into two volumes stating in French.here in English.His majesty King Farouk the first has ordered distribution of the book published under the auspice of his Auguste father King Fouad first to celebrate the military campaigns of Mohammed-Aly and Ibrahim and for the greater glory of Egypt.
