Första upplagan av detta i utlandet mycket inflytelserika arbete om samhällsomvandlingar i Sveriges historia utkom redan 1695 och trycktes sedan i en mängd upplagor även så sent som 1844. Den sträcker sig fram till Gustav Vasas död. Sheridans verk om Gustav III:s revolution utkom på engelska 1778 och i fransk översättning 1783. Detta är den andra franska utgåvan. C. F. Sheridan 1750-1806 var vid Gustav III:s revolution engelskt sändebud i Stockholm. Inte att förväxla med den eventuella pseudonymen J. R.
