197010902Culver City CA: Probe 1970. A very curious underground publication targeting the banking establishment as the "NO. 1 ENEMY of the working classes." Although leftist in orientation its coverage of usury "international bankers" the Federal Reserve including a profile on its former chairman Eugene Meyer and the banking system in general is uncomfortably similar to many anti-Semitic publications on the far right. Reprinted in full is "The Temple of the Thirteen Suns" a fable read to the House Banking and Currency Committee of Congress in 1935 by Robert Hemphill and later re-printed by neo-Nazi George P. Dietz for his Liberty Bell Publications. There are adverts for PROBE reprints of anti-Semitic works such as Sy Foster's Ten Letters from an International Banker to His Son and Charles Lindbergh Sr.'s isolationist classic Why Is Your Country at War which blamed industrialists and bankers for America's entry into WWI. We find no evidence that PROBE editions of these books were ever published.

We were unable to find any information about this publication or the purported organization who published it. The few institutions holding this inaugural issue hold no others leading us to assume that this was the sole issue. The sentiments and ideological hybridity expressed are redolent of those advanced by Lyndon LaRouche's National Caucus of Labor Committees NCLC and based on the collection we acquired this with we assume PROBE to be a NCLC front group - of which there was no shortage. Only the second copy we've handled

Tabloid format printed in black on higher quality paper we've also handled a newsprint variant 8 p. illus. Folded; faint ‘Wilcox Collection' stamp to the top of the front cover. We find four institutional holdings in OCLC Northwestern Wisconsin Historical Society Kansas & Univ. of CT. with one other copy in the Winston Papers at UMass. Absent from California institutions. Scarce. Probe unknown

Avec des textes de Jean-Baptiste Thoret, Koji Wakamatsu, Nagisa Oshima et Go Hirasawa Photographies noir & blanc. DVD ABSENT.

224 pages. Index. Twenty pages of black and white photographic plates. "This account of the Cyprus revolt analyses its causes, and documents many of the incidents during the four dangerous and violent years before the Zurich agreements were signed in London in February 1959. The author, a Cypriot, is able to reveal something of the daring and ingenious methods of the EOKA guerrillas; their hide-outs in the mountains and forests, or in a peasant's cellar; their secret organisation which penetrated the church, the administration, even the police." - from dust jacket. After disclosing his views and the actions of the army in the region, he goes on to describe Jerusalem, the Suez Canal, and the wars that took place there. Erden gave new information on the reasons and results of the Canal operation, the condition of the Turkish army along Palestine and Syria fronts, the relations among the Turkish staff, and the nature of the Arab revolt through his views and observations in Egypt, Palestine, and Syria fronts accumulated as he was Cemal Pasha's chief of staff. 1971197611971. Warhol Andy. Women in Revolt 1971 documents a significant work of underground cinema engaging transgender identity performance and feminist discourse within the context of Warhol's Factory productions. Produced by Andy Warhol and directed by Paul Morrissey the film features prominent transgender performers including Candy Darling Jackie Curtis and Holly Woodlawn. The film engages themes of gender identity performance and social marginalization through satire supporting research into LGBTQ film history avant-garde cinema and the intersection of queer culture with feminist movements of the early 1970s.

Archive of 3 original vintage silver gelatin photographs used as lobby display materials each measuring approximately 10 x 8 inches in black and white. Two photographs feature Candy Darling in stylized portrait-like scenes including one in which she sits on a couch wearing pronounced makeup and gazing into the distance and another in which she appears adorned with a pearl necklace emphasizing glamour and constructed femininity. The third photograph depicts Holly Woodlawn reclining alongside Martin Kove presenting a staged domestic or intimate setting. The images foreground costume pose and expression reflecting the film's engagement with identity as performance and the visual language of Warhol's cinematic productions.

Produced during a period of expanding queer visibility in underground film following the late 1960s Women in Revolt situates transgender performers at the center of its narrative marking a departure from marginal or coded representation in mainstream media. Its satirical treatment of the Women's Liberation Movement reflects tensions and intersections between feminist and queer discourses of the period while also documenting the lived realities and artistic contributions of Warhol's collaborators. These photographs provide material evidence of how such themes were visually presented within alternative film circuits. Light handling wear with minor edge wear; images remain sharp and well-preserved; overall very good. A concise and significant group from a foundational work of transgender representation in avant-garde cinema. unknown
