PREMIER TIRAGE des 30 lithographies en noir de Lynd Ward. Lynd Ward (1905-1985). Lynd Ward est un artiste du livre malheureusement peu connu en France, il était le fils du pasteur méthodiste et politicien Harry F. Ward. Il a grandi en Illinois, au Massachusett et dans le New Jersey. Adolescent, il réalisa un jour que son patronyme lu à l’envers donnait draw, une bonne raison pour se lancer dans le métier d’artiste. Il étudia les beaux-arts à New-York et fut diplômé en 1926. Il a composé en xylographie plusieurs romans sans paroles où il représente le monde ouvrier au moyen d’un dessin sensuel et onirique. Les scènes de la vie de Reed, lors de la révolution zapatiste au Mexique et de la révolution bochévique en Russie : scènes de la vie ouvrière et paysanne, campements, meetings, émeutes, réunions, etc. lui fournissent ici un matériau particulièrement adapté à son style et à son talent.Petits accidents aux coins, sinon bel exemplaire.
