A loose leaf added to volume with 34 ink-drawn and contemporary hand-coloured small coats of arms with accompanying text written in a cursive 17th-century hand. 2 volumes. 4 plus 1 loose leaf; 8 ll. Very interesting manuscript genealogies of two highly important Dutch noble families originating from the city of Culemborg and the village Beusichem south-east of Utrecht together with their allied Dutch Flemish and Hainaut families running from ca. 925 till ca. 1650 latest entry in the manuscript dated 1654. Both volumes are written in the same hand probably in the third quarter of the seventeenth century and elaborately illustrated with different hand-coloured coat of arms. The first volume contains coat of arms from among others important Dutch families as Uytten Enge Raephorst Bronckhorst Vyanen-Rijsenburg Borre van Amerongen Taets van Amerongen and Reness; the second volume also contains coat of arms from important Dutch but also Flemish and Hainaut families such as Arckel Vyanen-Montfoort Weerdenburg Egmont Reiffenscheyt Lalaing Pallant-Cocq van Nerynen Poelgeest Nievelt Merode Mathenesse etc. In this first volume a leaf with a genealogy is inserted. This leaf was written by the Utrecht historian and genealogist Arnoldus Buchelius 1565-1641 who composed many leaves with family trees and coloured coats of arms for wealthy Dutch noble families. The present leaf concerns the Cuylemburch and Rysenburch family. Although not credited in the books this set was edited by Cuyler Reynolds genealogist historian and then curator of The Albany Institute and Historical and Art Society. Typically the essays include an explanation of the geographical origin or derivation of the family's surname sometimes going back as far as the 16th or 17th centuries. Reynolds then traces the family lineage from the earliest known ancestor to the principal subject of each essay. Then he details the subject's biography often with a full page tissue-guarded engraved portrait as well as an enumeration of collateral family lines. The index lists some 3500 decendants of the families covered. Subtitle: A RECORD OF THE ACHIEVEMENTS OF HER PEOPLE IN THE MAKING OF A COMMONWEALTH AND THE BUILDING OF A NATION. 188810720Charles G. Bosher 1888. Unbound. Very Good binding. Bifolium. 4 pp. Unbound folded sheet with printing on all four pages. Old folds; some toning. This genealogical leaflet offers a paragraph of the earliest known Boshers with particular focus on Charles Bosher of England and Charles's children. There is particular focus on the issue of the Charles's youngest son Gideon. In addition to names and marrages there are occasionally biographical notes usually only a line but telling: "John Bosher's wife was burned in the old theatre in 1811 the site of the present Monumental Episcopal Church in Richmond VA." Or "James succeeded Charles Bosher in 1814 in the present carriage business carried on by R. H. Bosher's Sons." On contemporary owner note in the text: "This is our line" else clean. A remarkably uncommon leaflet that appears unrecorded in the usual bibliographies and references. We find one mention on a genealogical wikisite that attributes the printing to Charles Bosher and the date to "about 1888"; both of which seem contextually plausible. Remarkably ephemeral piece with noteworthy information. [Charles G. Bosher] unknown
