He was also a businessman involved in insurance and real estate. His memoirs include much on the local area's history including politics feuds moonshine the K. K .K unsavory personalities the "last battle of the Confederacy" Bloody Bill Cunningham Major W. R. Crawford Jack Blayton dogs etc. Of genealogical importance is a long section on McCravy family history. He also provides short biographies of 89 of his friends and neighbors.
