Here he met and married Matilda King who had emigrated on the "Fortitude" ship to the Moreton Bay sttlement of Brisbane in 1849. They carved out a futre for their family of 14 children at Pioneer Farm as part of the Village Settlement at Kooroongarra just south of Millmerran.
