178126467Oxford: Printed at the Clarendon Press by W. Jackson and A. Hamilton Printers to the University: Sold by W. Dawson at the Bible Warehouse Paternoster Row London 1781. Hardcover. Otherwise very good condition. A handsome Book of Common Prayer in full black gilt calf with an early foredge painting of St. Albans Abbey and recording the births and deaths of an English family from 1787 to 1830. The end paper has a note in an early hand stating the foredge is of "St. Albans Abbey" with the surrounding district. The original owners name has been crossed out but the last pages of the book include record the births and deaths of the Osmond Family of Hungerford. 8vo 568pp. Printed in a large and attractive type on laid paper marbled endpapers. A little light soiling thumbing on the first few pages on the lower right corner but the whole in very clean without foxing. Period full black calf gilt tooled binding marbled end papers gilt inner and outer dentelles all edges gilt. Housed in a later cloth slip case. Spine a touch dry the binding is tight yet opens comfortably. ESTC T166750 - No pagination provided ; 8° the final leaf = Ll4. 8vo 21 cm 568p. Signatures: a-b8A-2K82L4; OCLC: 19077869. Full title - The Book of Common Prayer And Administration of the Sacraments and other Rites and Ceremonies of the Church According to the Use of the Church of England: Together with The Psalter or Psalms of David Pointed as they are to be Sung or Said in Churches. The family genealogy on the last two leaves are for John Osmond baptised 1 Apr 1787 in Hungerford Berkshire England whose parents were Joseph & Mary Osmond. FHL Film Number: 88273 from Ancestry. John Osmond married Sarah Coxhead in Hungerford on 27 Jul 1809. As is sadly the case in those times there are many more births and deaths of children recorded than there are surviving children recorded on the family tree on Ancestry.
