1782705741 document manuscrit sur vélin de 2 ff., daté 1780 et 1782 : [ Document sur Vélin : Acte d'arrentement daté de 1780, relatif à la commune de Magné, près de Niort, signé par H. de Luzignem ] Par devant le Notaire au Duché Pairie de Rohan-Rohan et Comté de Benon soussigné présents les témoins ci-après nommés furent présents Pierre Papinot journalier et Catherine Chollet sa femme de luy bien et deuement autorisée à l'effet des présentes demeurants au Bourg et paroisse de Magné d'une part, Et René Bourolleau marchand demeurant à Monpense susdite paroisse de Magné d'autre part, Lesquels dits Papinot et Chollet sa femme voulant se procurer les moyens de payer plus commodément le reste de leurs jours ont par ces présentes de leurs bons gré vollonté cédé quitté délaissé et transporté à titre d'arrentement viager et vente audit Bourolleau présent stipulant et acceptant pour luy les siens successeurs et ayants cause à l'avenir savoir : Est une maison avec ses appartenances et dépendances consistant en une chambre basse à feu dans laquelle il y a un four à coté de la cheminée, grenier au-dessus le tout en très mauvais état et menaçant une ruine prochaine, un petit jardin à coté contenant à semer un boisseau demi de graine chenevis [etc... ] [ Avec apostille en marge gauche] : Je reconnais avoir reçu de l'acquéreur cy dessus nommé la somme de cinquante cinq livres pour les droits de lods et ventes... fait remise d'un tiers en faveur dudit acquéreur seulement et l'ont quittancé... au château de Mauzé le quinze aoust 1782. First edition rare in the original boards of this important account of the revolt of 'Ali Bey the shaykh al-balad of Egypt who declared the country independent of the Ottoman Empire before proceeding to seize control of the Hijaz and invade Syria. His rule ended following the insubordination of his most trusted general Abu al-Dhahab which led to Ali Bey's exile then death outside the walls of Cairo. "Very little is known of Lusignan who claims to have known Ali Bey personally. He seems to have been a Greek or more probably a Cypriot who took refuge in London; he advertises himself as a teacher of ancient and modern Greek on A5v but there is no mention of him in Legrand. Perhaps he is connected with the Giacomo Lusignan who later acted as a factotum for the Earl of Guildford" Blackmer. He was also the author of A Series of Letters Addressed to Sir William Fordyce. Containing a Voyage and Journey from England to Smyrna from thence to Constantinople 1788. Octavo 225 x 135 mm. Uncut in original boards paper spine printed paper label. With a laid-in typed translation into Italian of a British newspaper report of Joachim Murat's invasion of Sicily dated Messina 19 September 1810. Contemporary manuscript correction to author's address on title page a touch rubbed and marked overall corners and head of spine bumped surface splitting to tail of both joints and along rear hinge old restoration to spine at tail occasional light foxing as usual. Complete with the errata leaf. This remains an excellent entirely unsophisticated copy. ESTC T130751. hardcover
