Folio white and cream leatherette hardcover gilt lettering and decorations to upper cover 96 pp 3 folding maps laid-in at rear. Fine in a Very Good dust jacket with edgewear. From dust jacket: To mark the two-hundredth anniversary of Dauphin County the valuable and extraordinary Daughphin County Historical Atlas of 1875 has been reissued with the original text and maps plus a new illustrated introduction. The original has become so rare that many libraries do not own it and none circulate it. The 1875 maps reveal villages roadways churches cemeteries -- many more particulars than on most historic maps. Three foldout maps show Harrisburg and Middletown in 1875 and the county as it is today. For those with a keen interest in family histories the Atlas is a special delight. The 1875 owners of thousands of houses and businesses are named on the maps. The index lists these names alphabetically -- a most unusual feature for an atlas. The original Atlas has a lengthy essay entitled “History of Dauphin County†and over 50 charming lithographic illustrations of farms businesses cityscapes and landscapes. An important addition to the 1985 edition is the new introductory essay by Dr. Robert G. Crist professional historian.
