354 pages. Index. Footnotes. "On very rare occasions a book appears which forever changes the way in which we perceive the world around us. Within a short while it becomes hard to understand how we could have functioned without the knowledge gained from it. This is such a book. Quigley presents certain 'keys' crucial to the understanding of 20th century political, economic and military events - events of the past, present, and future... The fact that Carroll Quigley, a highly respected professor at Georgetown University and an instructor at Princeton and Harvard, could not find a publisher for this work, is in itself significant." - Stephen A. Zarlenga, Publisher. Light wear to book which is clean and unmarked but for prior owner's neat signature atop front free endpaper. Illustrates how, even in the earliest of times of which written record remains, the days of Babylonia or before, a so-called monetary science undoubtedly existed; being then, as in today, never more than an instrument by which its secret and cynical controllers wittingly influenced the destinies of individuals, Nations and Empires as to (temporary) glory or (final) disaster." - from dust jacket. Human rights groups, academics, ethnic associations, clergymen and even an archbishop have all tried to silence him. But it's not all serious. There's a thick thread of humour in these pages. You may not laugh and grow fat, but you will laugh.' - from dust jacket. Contains columns from the North Shore News. Clean, bright and unmarked with lightest wear. 22127Pollock Printer North Shields. No date March 1820. For information regarding the conspiracy to murder Lord Liverpool and his entire cabinet see Thistlewood's entry in the Oxford DNB. A rare item with no other copy found either on OCLC WorldCat or on COPAC and intended for distribution in the streets of the North-East of England as the sensational news of the Conspiracy broke. In small print apart from the heading which is in the usual mixture for the period of typefaces and point sizes with fancy rules on one side of a 42 x 13 cm strip of laid paper. Aged and worn with manuscript calculations in ink on the blank reverse showing through slightly. Folded twice. Reprinting newspaper accounts the first dated 'London Thursday Evening Feb. 24 1820.' with sub-heading 'Bow-Street 12 o'clock.' the second 'London Friday Evening Feb. 28.' Of the moment of arrest by Ellis and the Bow Street officers the first report states: 'On the door being opened about 27 or 30 men were seen within all armed in some way or other; and for the most part they were apparently engaged either in charging fire-arms or in girding themselves in belts similar to those worn by the military. There were tables about the room on which lay a number of cutlasses bayonets &c. As the officers entered the room the conspirators all started up when Ruthven who had been furnished with a warrant from the Magistrate exclaimed - “We are peace-officers! Lay down your arms!†A smart contest instantly commenced. A man whom Ruthven describes as Arthur Thistlewood opposed himself to the officers armed with a cut and thrust sword of unusual length. Ellis advanced to the man and presenting his pistol exclaimed “Drop your sword or I'll fire instantly!†The sword was brandished with increasing violence and Smithers attempting to seize him was stabbed in the heart. He fell into the arms of Ellis exclaiming “Oh God!†and in the next instant was a corpse.' Pollock, Printer, North Shields. No date [March 1820]. unknown
253 pages. Selected bibliography. "Poses some intriguing questions and provides some startling answers. Was Columbus really a merchant sailor from Genoa, the son of humble wool-carders? Offers a convincing explanation of Columbus's real mission - one of the most romantic and evocative in history." - from back cover. Above-average wear. Library markings upon half-title page. lxxiv, 421 pages. Bibliography, index and endnotes. "The Culture of Critique (CofC) was originally published in 1998. It described how Jewish intellectuals initiated and advanced a number of important intellectual and political movements during the 20th century. I argue that these movements are attempts to alter Western societies in a manner that would neutralize or end anti-Semitism and enhance the prospects for Jewish group community either in an overt or in a semi-cryptic manner." - Preface. "This first paperback edition attampts to answer some criticisms leveled against CofC. I also discuss issues including Jewish involvement in Communism, the emergence of the Holocaust as a central cultural icon in Western societies, Jewish invovlement in the U.S. media, and the role of Jewish organizations in censoring the Internet." - back cover.
