Very Good Turkish, Ottoman (1500-1928) Original autograph letter signed by Cevat Rifat Atilhan sent to an unnamed recipient. 30x23 cm. In Ottoman script. 15 lines. Full with letterheads. Dated 1961/8/26 with Arabic numbers. A good paper with only an 'extra strong' watermark. It's a feverish letter mentioning the ideas of the readers of Italian and the Turkish nation to an unnamed recipient. Very interesting content. Atilhan was a Turkish career officer and antisemitic writer, who was one of the initiators of the 1934 Thrace pogroms. He was born in 1892 in Vefa, Constantinople. His father Rifat Pasha was the Governor of Damascus. The first years of his childhood passed in Damascus. Then he came to Constantinople and went to Fatih Iptidaisi (primary school). After graduating from primary school, he started to Kuleli Military High School, preferring to military service. In his first days in the lieutenant years, he took part in the Albanian campaign. He was taken prisoner by the Bulgarians in the siege of Edirne. The bondage lasted two years. At the beginning of World War I, he was ordered by Cemal Pasha from Mersin. He came forward with his heroism in the Sinai and Palestinian fronts. Upon the conclusion of the First World War, Cemal Pasha from Mersin came to Konya. The establishment of the National Front had great benefits. He met with Sultan Mehmed VI as the first national representative. When Sultan Mehmed VI left his post, Damat Ferid Pasha had Atilhan arrested because of a conspiracy. He was imprisoned in the Bekir Aga Bölgesi. During the Turkish War of Independence, he was appointed as the commander of Zonguldak-Bartin and Havalisi Fronts. It prevented the spread of the French Army in this region. Upon the victory of the War of Independence, he left the army and went into writing. Of his anti-semitic book "Suzy Liberman, Jewish Spy", in 1935 the Turkish Army gave the order to buy 40000 copies and distributed them amongst the officers. In 1942, he was arrested by the government of the time on the grounds that the coup was being prepared. He was incarcerated for 11 months. In 1952, he was arrested again in Malatya as responsible for the assassination attempt of Ahmet Emin Yalman. He was detained for 11 months and 15 days. He wrote 74 works and thousands of articles. He was influenced by antisemitic politicians like Serif Yaçagaz and Ali Galip Yenen. Because of his antisemitic writings, he was described as the 'Hitler of the Middle East'. In August 1964 he was invited to congress of Islamic State in Somalia. He was elected as the Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Congress. This post was his last major mission. Separated from his family, Dr. Miklos Nyiszli [1901-1956] was chosen to direct the medical pathology work carried on among the prisoners by the Nazis for the purpose of 'scientific research' in that most infamous of all concentration camps. Through the doctor's eyes, we relive not only the day-to-day horrors of life in the KZ but also witness the slow disintegration of an empire built to last a thousand years. x, [2], 423 pages. Index. "There is no man living who, from the beginning or in the progress or at the ending of federal reserve legislation, was more closely or constantly than I privy to and identified with the consideration and enactment of the law under which the federal reserve banking system was set up. Ever since the enactment of the federal reserve law it has been my intention to write, some day, a story of the many inside events, word of which never reached beyond a closely restricted circle and had no such thing as current newspaper attention. Very likely my desire to tell the dramatic story would have abated if not for the recent publication of the 'Intimate Papers' in which the paternity of the Federal Reserve Act and its particular management are placidly ascribed to Colonel E.M. House." - Introduction. Accordingly, Chapter III of this book is devoted to a scathing critique of the veracity of 'The Intimate Papers of Colonel House', first published in 1926. Colonel House was an intimate confidant of Woodrow Wilson, President when the Federal Reserve Act was passed. Latter day conspiracy researchers argue House successfully advocated for the interests of the House of Rothschild during the development and passage of the Federal Reserve Act. In response to Glass's book, Paul Warburg, also instrumental in the founding of the Federal Reserve, was "impelled to lay down in black and white my recollections of certain events in the history of banking reform." - Preface to his two-volume work The Federal Reserve System, Its Origins and Growth - Reflections and Recollections, published in 1930. Commenting on Glass's book, James Grant, of Interest Rate Observer fame, notes "the story of the creation of the Fed by its chief progenitor, Carter Glass, makes you doubt he would recognize today's Federal Reserve, were he brought back to life to inspect it. He explodes in indignation at any who would impugn the proposed Federal Reserve note as mere fiat money. In fact, he considered the currency to be as good as gold - or better." Clearly, Glass's recollections herein represent a profoundly important chronicle of the origins and founding of the Federal Reserve System. Frontispiece photo portrait of Woodrow Wilson. Sm. folio, 3 leaves, BLACK-LETTER throughout, with fine woodblock arms of William III on front cover and woodblock illuminated capital on first page of text; disbound, uncut, a remarkably crisp, clean copy. 8 Gulielmi III.The death of Queen Mary in 1695 isolated William as an object of Jacobite hatred; the motive for his assassination being the stronger since his death would no longer leave her in occupation of the throne. In February James II moved to Calais and the Jacobite conspirators moved to action. As William drove home to Kensington Palace from his weekly outing in Richmond Park he had to pass along a narrow and muddy lane near Turnham Green. Here he was to be surrounded and murdered. This was the most serious of the several plots against him, but the plotters' security was lax and on 24 February William announced in parliament knowledge both of the plan and of the proposed invasion from France. This act arraigns Sir George Barclay and a number of lesser Jacobites including Johnson alias Harrison, Durant alias Durance, Michael Hare, Major George Holmes, Philip Hanford alias Browne, Richard Richardson, John Maxwell, Bryerly, Plowden and Hungate.Conspirators already languishing in Newgate are named as Counter, [Major ] John Bernardi, Robert Cassells, Robert Meldrum, James Chambers and Robert Blackbourne.
