Fairly representative Progressive Era omnium-gatherum of social reform ideas statistics and economic theory. The author was a California lawyer and journalist for some time assistant managing editor of the San Francisco Examiner and the author of some twenty books on a wide variety of topics including California history social reform and spiritualism. From the advertising leaf: ".An impartial discussion of some of the wrongs and rights of capital and labor together with an analysis of industrial depressions as related to the present railway system. Also a glance a co-operative profit-sharing an analysis of Henry George's land fallacies with thoughts on socialism and the future of labor containing notes and tables on the social condition of the people.
