A very clean very tight copy with bright unmarked boards and no bumping to corners. 127pp. A study of the painting from the time of the Court of Charlemagne in the late 8th and early 9th centuries which spread throughout the Frankish enpire. With twenty-nine pages of introduction, bibliography and provenance of the plates plus forty-eight full-page plates and associated descriptions opposite.
