In good condition with some closed tears to margins and edge toning.<br> <Br> Ambroise Tardieu 1788-1841 was a French engraver mapmaker and publisher. From a family of engravers he was trained by his uncle Pierre Alexandre Tardieu and became celebrated for his portraits. He also published a number of atlases. He and his uncle are not to be confused with Jean Baptiste Pierre Tardieu an unrelated French cartographer and engraver.<br/> <br/> Ambroise Tardieu unknown

Stains and foxing but otherwise in good condition.<br/> <br/> Important early map of the United States published in "Voyage dans la Haute Pensylvanie et dans l'etat de New-York" by Michel Guillame de Crevecoeur. One of the most highly detailed and comprehensive maps published post-Revolution it depicts the northeast US extending from Maine to northern Virginia and westward to the Ohio River. In the Finger Lakes region surveyed bounty land known as the Central New York Military Tract or New Military Tract is indicated. Following the Revolutionary War New York soldiers were guaranteed 500 acres as compensation for their service. Nearly two million acres were reserved for this purpose. Other interesting features of the map include the Connecticut Western Reserve in present day Ohio and lack of a northern border in Maine. Cities counties rivers and roadways are labeled. Some stains along left margin. Minor spotting. <br> <br> Pierre Francois Tardieu 1711-1771 came from a family of engravers and map makers based in Paris.<br/> <br/> Maradan unknown

Laid down on a small scale the map covers from Novelle Zemla to Kamtchatka Peninsula. From the Arctic Ocean to the Territory of the Chines there is an underlying physical geography focused on a riverine regime. Overall a very nice cartifact. Tarieu, Pirre unknown

For thirty-eight months he explored the south and western Pacific Australia New Zealand and Antarctica. Several seaweeds plants and shrubs are named after him as well as D'Urville Island. 1848M7518Paris: A. Bes & F. Dubreuil Fils c. 1848. Very Good. Folding map flattened and backed acid-free tissue paper for long-term preservation. Two marginal tears repaired expertly. Notes: A scarce large-scale map of the Mexican-American War era and of the entire West. <br><br>To the very north the boundaries of the United States extend well into future British Columbia and within the current states of Washington and Oregon is carved the District of Columbia which was owned by the British. California Arizona and Nevada are together and California's central valley is highlighted for its gold deposits.<br><br>The map is based upon the Eustache Herisson map of the United States 1799 and its major cities. As various publications were made 1826 1834 the map started to take shape. Various projections of the Rocky Mountains were used based off of the Humboldt and Pike projections. Much of the Northwest is based off of the Lewis and Clark expedition. <br><br>This particular map is a scarce and important example as it focuses on the changes brought about by the Mexican-American War. The major differences in this regard are a small inset map of Central America and the delineation of the Mexican-American border; as this map shows all the territory that the United States had captured since the onset of the war. <br><br>Five inset maps depict Mexico and the cities of Washington Boston Philadelphia and New York. Copperplate engraving of Constantinople including labeled geographic features and key in top-right corner listing them. Pierre Francois Tardieu 1711-1774 was a prominent French cartographer and engraver working in the mid 18th century. This print provides a fine example of his cartographic work and attention to detail. Two small pinholes on middle left side of image border. Smudge marks on top-right corner of border. Stated fourth edition of Massons encyclopedia for children; the first was published in 1804. Massons encyclopedia is arranged as a series of questions and answers on an encyclopedic range of topics suitable for the schools of deux sexes. The folding mappemonde map is an exquisite addition to the encyclopedia and looks like it was harldy ever unfolded. All the wonderful and expertly executed plates are on a richer and sturdier paper that has resisted age well. The well-known Parisian engraver Pierre François Tardieu executed the map as well as the plate on cosmography. Chez Masson et fils hardcover
