While undertaking a minute investigation of that area in September 1951 I noted a vast oblong artificial terrace which lies at a distance of about 144 m. to the south-west of Djoser's enclosure and extends from north to south. This terrace is situated in the south-east corner of an area which is bounded on the east by Djoser's western enclosure wall and the pyramid of Unis and on the west by the great enclosure found by Jaques de Morgan and subsequently worked on for one season 1947-1948 by the late Abdessalam Hussein." - from the introductory text. Very rare. Sergei Efimovich Malov (1880-1957), Russian and Soviet linguist, Orientalist, Turkologist. Initially intended as an academic manual for university courses on the history of the Turkic languages, Malov's book soon became a standard work on the subject. It examines texts on Turkic monuments from about the 5th to the 15th centuries, preserved on stones, in what Malov termed "Graveyard Poetry". Turkic texts are given in runic, Uyghur or Arabic letters, as well as in transcription into Russian or Latin letters with translation, and are accompanied by remarks of a historical-literary-bibliographic-linguistic nature. At the end of the book, a dictionary is provided to all the words on the monuments. Each section is enlarged with a bibliography. [Provenance:] At the beginning of the book there are scattered small stamps. Previously at the libraries of the State University Utrecht and the Institution for Eastern and Slavic Languages, and finally in the private collection of Leiden University Turkologist, Dr. A. Spaans from whose collection the book currently comes. With extensive manuscripts related to the book in his hand loosely inserted.
