La drammaturgia di impegno sociale di Saverio La Ruina, caratterizzata dalla peculiare ritrosia dei suoi personaggi e da una narrazione lieve e pudica, ha reso il drammaturgo, regista e attore uno dei nomi più noti della scena italiana contemporanea. Il volume si concentra sulla produzione teatrale più recente di La Ruina, la cui forza autoriale si è imposta con i monologhi in dialetto calabro-lucano Dissonorata e La Borto, che affrontano il tema della violenza di genere e dell'aborto, con Italianesi, assolo tragico a sfondo storico sull'identità migrante, con Polvere. Dialogo tra uomo e donna, indagine tagliente sulla violenza psicologica e verbale nel rapporto di coppia, e con il recentissimo Masculu e fiammina in cui l'autore torna al monologo per affrontare il tema dell'omosessualità. Con la sua sola, potente presenza scenica La Ruina si dimostra capace di una ricerca antropologica minuziosa, in grado di restituire - con precisione quasi calligrafica - il dolore dei suoi personaggi e la ferita aperta del loro Sé lacerato. Questa prima monografia critica sull'autore si propone di indagarne, oltre all'impegno «politico», anche la lingua e lo stile, secondo due direttive di ricerca parallele e strettamente intrecciate: l'indagine tematica sulll'«identità sotto chiave» che, con declinazioni diverse, accomuna i protagonisti delle sue pièce, e l'analisi testuale, uno strumento indispensabile - come troppo spesso si dimentica - alla decifrazione di ogni poetica. Piranesi geht hierbei von den Fragmenten des "Marmorplans" aus, welcher bereits in Band 1 der "Antichità Romane" erscheint, und schafft somit eine fiktive Erneuerung des antiken Rom.
