Dwight David "Ike" Eisenhower 1890 - 1969 was the 34th president of the United States serving from 1953 to 1961. During World War II he was Supreme Commander of the Allied Expeditionary Force in Europe and achieved the five-star rank as General of the Army. Eisenhower planned and supervised two of the most consequential military campaigns of World War II: Operation Torch in the North Africa campaign in 1942-1943 and the invasion of Normandy in 1944. Mary Geneva "Mamie" Eisenhower 1896 -1979 was First Lady of the United States from 1953 to 1961 as the wife of President Dwight D. Eisenhower. Card sizes are 115mm x 65mm and 115mm x 75mm. The book is warmly inscribed by Eisenhower to Mrs Charles Jane Englehard a prominent donor to White House restoration projects and a close friend of Lyndon B. Johnson. She served on a variety of advisory committees through many administrations from Kennedy to Clinton. The letter acknowledges that the author has signed the book and sent under seperate cover. He also refers to the text of the book mentioning his view on the Foreign service and wishing Mrs Englehard and her commission every success. The book is near fine with just a little creasing to the edges of the dustwrapper. Housed in a blue cloth covered chemise and fine blue morocco leather spined slip case. Spine with raised bandsdecorated with stars and spots. Compartments ruled in blind lettered and decorated in gilt. Blue cloth on boards. --- Milton was the Younger brother of Dwight D.
