La Paulette, du nom de son initiateur Charles PAULET, était un droit annuel facultatif sur la transmission des charges et offices. Le payer autorisait la transmission de la charge ou office, dans le cas contraire, le rachat était fait par le Roi qui avait tout loisir de réattribuer. Avant la mise en place de la Paulete, une charge pouvait être cédée contre réglement d'une taxe de résiliation mais à condition que l'officier survive 40 jours à l'acte de résiliation. La mise en place de la Paulete supprimait ce délai de 40 jours. En résumé la Paulete facilite l'hérédité de la charge ou de l'office raréfiant ainsi la possibilité de s'en voir octroyer par le Roi. D'ou désaccords entre les titulaires de charge ou offices transmissibles et ceux qui en espéraient une du Roi, cette derniére révocable par nature. Certains historiens s' accordent à dire que la Paulete est un des éléments déclencheurs de La Fronde. Quelques rousseurs sans grande gravité, reliure en trés bon état réalisée au début du XX° siécle. Rare.

With a woodcut rampant lion holding a sword within a garden fence symbolizing the Dutch Republic surrounded by a wreath and 1 woodcut decorated initial letter. 4 pp. A formal letter from the States General of the Dutch Republic to the States of Holland dated 25 June 1607 announcing the aggreement reached with Spain for a cease-fire which took effect on 4 May and further clarifying its regulations. In particular it declares the ports of the Southern Netherlands open to traffic from both North and South including small fishing boats and details the regions that fall under control of the Republic and of Spain. It also warns that anyone violating the terms of the cease-fire will have to pay reparations and urges the States of Holland to enforce the terms in their regions.Interesting for the Republic's efforts to enforce the cease-fire among its own people.A duplicate from the collection of the Amsterdam City Library now University Library with their stamp and "Doublet" cancellation stamp slightly browned. With woodcut arms of the States General lion with sword and 7 arrows in a scrollwork cartouche decorated with fruits on title-page 3 woodcut decorated initials 2 series the larger 44 mm and a typographic interlaced capital. Set in textura types with incidental roman. Second copy located of the only known edition of the third revised version promulgated on 17 March 1627 of a proclamation specifying the numbers types and weights of cannons and other arms as well as the number of men and boys required for ships in various weight classes covering separately both merchant ships and fishing ships the latter would include whaling though only herring fishery is explicitly mentioned. War with Spain had resumed at the end of the 12 Years' Truce in 1621 so that ships were always in danger of attack. An appendix also dated 17 March 1627 gives instructions for the officials who were to oversee the Dutch shipping in the Øresund between Denmark and Sweden and the Vlie between the islands off the coast of Friesland as well as major centres elsewhere in the Netherlands. The only other copy we have located is in the Rotterdam Public Library.With a small worm hole through most leaves a few faintly browned patches and one corner of 2 leaves torn off not approaching the text. The sewing has come loose so that the quires are no longer attached to each other. In good condition and trimmed only at the foot and there only slightly.l Picarta 1 copy; WorldCat same copy; cf.
