The covers are clean but internally this is quite soiled - it seems from a damp atmosphere. This has "num. 32" printed to the title page and would appear to come originally from a bound collection of Dutch treaties of the period. Pages have separated from their text block. Conforms to FirstSearch / OCLC:66918463. Only two library holdings Rotterdam and Utrecht and no copies for sale at the time of cataloguing. . Première édition. 11 pages. With a woodcut rampant lion holding a sword within a garden fence symbolizing the Dutch Republic surrounded by a wreath and 1 woodcut decorated initial letter. 4 pp. A formal letter from the States General of the Dutch Republic to the States of Holland dated 25 June 1607 announcing the aggreement reached with Spain for a cease-fire which took effect on 4 May and further clarifying its regulations. In particular it declares the ports of the Southern Netherlands open to traffic from both North and South including small fishing boats and details the regions that fall under control of the Republic and of Spain. It also warns that anyone violating the terms of the cease-fire will have to pay reparations and urges the States of Holland to enforce the terms in their regions.Interesting for the Republic's efforts to enforce the cease-fire among its own people.A duplicate from the collection of the Amsterdam City Library now University Library with their stamp and "Doublet" cancellation stamp slightly browned. With woodcut arms of the States General lion with sword and 7 arrows in a scrollwork cartouche decorated with fruits on title-page 3 woodcut decorated initials 2 series the larger 44 mm and a typographic interlaced capital. Set in textura types with incidental roman. Second copy located of the only known edition of the third revised version promulgated on 17 March 1627 of a proclamation specifying the numbers types and weights of cannons and other arms as well as the number of men and boys required for ships in various weight classes covering separately both merchant ships and fishing ships the latter would include whaling though only herring fishery is explicitly mentioned. War with Spain had resumed at the end of the 12 Years' Truce in 1621 so that ships were always in danger of attack. An appendix also dated 17 March 1627 gives instructions for the officials who were to oversee the Dutch shipping in the Øresund between Denmark and Sweden and the Vlie between the islands off the coast of Friesland as well as major centres elsewhere in the Netherlands. The only other copy we have located is in the Rotterdam Public Library.With a small worm hole through most leaves a few faintly browned patches and one corner of 2 leaves torn off not approaching the text. With a general title page followed by an index and 73 treaties nearly all with their own title page containing the original imprint and a woodcut of the Dutch lion the arms of the States General and a few with Van Wouw's printer's device of a snail with the motto "Avec le temps paulatim". Very rare mid-18th-century edition of a collection of 73 treaties between the Dutch Republic and countries in Europe including Belgium Denmark France Great Britain Norway Portugal Spain and Sweden. Since most treaties concern both the ending of hostilities and overseas commerce many concern the Dutch East India Company VOC the Dutch West India Company WIC and the Dutch colonies. Several include translations of the treaties. These documents represent some of the founding documents of the Dutch Republic along with assorted political documents and memorabilia of the Eighty Years War.With library stamp on the title page and some occasional spots. Set in textura types with incidental roman and italic. 8 pp. First edition published in Dutch translation of a treaty signed between the Dutch States General and Pasha Ahmed Karamanli 1686-1745 Turkish Muslim leader of the semi-autonomous state of Tripoli since 1711 when he killed the Ottoman governor and took the throne. The treaty in 13 articles guarantees the safety of Dutch ships trading at Tripoli and their crews even when shipwrecked sets restrictions on taxes military supplies such as gunpowder lead iron cannonballs and ships' masts are exempted. The governor of Tripoli is to see to it that the whole city is warned when one of the Dutch States General's ships drops anchor so that all who own slaves can keep an eye on them to ensure they do not flee to the ship. Rare second edition of a peace treaty between the Dutch Republic and the Regency of Algiers signed in 1757 ending the war that had started in 1755. It lists the agreements made between the two parties especially concerning Algiers's attitude towards ships sailing the waters around and ports of Algiers. Some articles deal with pirates Dutch merchants and the buying and selling of ships. Inserted at the end is a brief complement printed in 1760 including three more articles in addition to the original treaty. Some small stains. Paper wrappers worn.
