No inscriptions or marks. Very faint creasing to front cover, none to rear, creasing to spine. A very clean copy with bright unmarked boards, slight cocking to spine and no bumping to corners. 160pp. Edward was the first British monarch to have his whole life, from shy young boy to dignified and careworn King 'Beloved of his People', recorded by photography. The author takes us into Edward's complex world to share his round of public dutues and his ongoing preoccupations with the role of a constitutional monarch and the foreign policies of a rapidly changing Europe. Produced in association with the National Portrait Gallery.

Sm. folio, First Edition, with very numerous fine photographs and illustrations (one double-page and many full-page) in the text, two leaves with long closed tears, neat contemporary inscription on front wrapper; original pictorial wrappers (lower wrapper in red and black), wire-stitched as issued, a bright, clean copy. The three separately printed Supplements, sometimes found laid-in, are not present with this copy. A splendid contemporary record, and a rare survival.
Two volume set shows light wear to covers only. Binding is solid and square, text/interior is clean and free of marking of any kind. Each volume abut 330 pages, Vol. 1 1863 - 1905 : Life seen from the pit, Vol. 2: 1905 - 1936 Life seen from the stalls. Fold out map at back of Vol. 2 is in excellent condition. Both marked as first editions.
