43665inviting "Lady Collins to be present at the Abbey Church of Westminster." 10½" x 8½" with attractive decoratively printed border and blind stamp of the Earl Marshal London 26th June The coronation of Edward VII and his wife Alexandra took place at Westminster Abbey London on 9th August 1902. Originally scheduled for 26th June of that year the ceremony had been postponed at very short notice because the King had been taken ill with an abdominal abscess that required immediate surgery. In contrast to the coronation of Queen Victoria some 64 years earlier Edward and Alexandra's coronation had been carefully planned as a spectacle reflecting the influence and culture of the British Empire then at the height of its power but also as a meaningful religious occasion. This ticket was designed by George William EVE 1855-1914 375was a graphic designer and etcher responsible for several important British stamps as well as a designer of bookplates. He was an authority on heraldry; a member of the Heralds' College a Fellow of the Royal Society of Painter-Etchers and Engravers and a member of the Art Workers' Guild. When the Painter-Etchers and Engravers required a new diploma it was Eve who was chosen from amongst their ranks to create it. unknown
