1887417304Fitchburg Mass. 1887. Unbound. Very Good. Approximately 9" x 14.5". Old folds with neat professional reinforcement on the verso small chips and tears in the margins mostly at the corners a sound and very good example. Interesting political broadside from a little-known and relatively short-lived progressive party that was interested in printing money in order to buy land for poor people between the towns of Fitchburg and Leominster in order to make it a single city. The dating of the broadside is a little confusing: dated in 1885 but then mentions meetings in 1886 and 1887 the one in 1887 seemingly anticipates a meeting in October of 1887. One statement notes: "Our party point and plan is to improve strengthen and build up the government and remove the burden of taxes from the people and ever stand ready to receive any good move come before them and have women a chance to vote." Bd. 2 lettere brunplettet.

Minor edge wear and light soiling to boards. Internally clean. Very good plus. This directory here in its first year of publication is an extremely detailed compendium of information and statistics on virtually every aspect of Colorado territory covering its history geography and geology natural resources etc. "This Directory gives useful information on the early territorial history of Colorado including the various conventions and forms of government in the early days railroads colonization and early mining" - Streeter. The volume also includes an accurate directory for Denver Golden City Black Hawk Central City Nevada Idaho Georgetown Greeley Colorado City Pueblo Trinidad etc. An appendix for the Denver directory includes the noted western artist A.E. Mathews who had recently published GEMS OF ROCKY MOUNTAIN SCENERY and the Chinese tea dealer Tang Fee. This text is further supplemented by more than 200 pages of advertisements for local businesses. A more useful and comprehensive guide to pre- statehood Colorado would be difficult to find. Though published in Denver by Samuel Wallihan who also edited the work this book was printed in Chicago and is therefore also an example of a Chicago ante-fire imprint. However it is not listed in the American Imprints Inventory list of Ante-Fire imprints nor is it in Eberstadt Graff or Decker. Howell paid $110 for the Streeter copy in 1969. HOWES C611. 182757374Randers Elmenhoff 1827-29. Indbundet i 12 ensartede lidt senere hldrbd. Rig rygforgyldning forgyldte skindtitler.
