This attractive little guidebook tells the tourist everything they may want to know about traveling along the Hudson in the 1870s. In various chapters Colt takes the reader from New York City to Irvington West Point Albany Cooperstown Troy and Lake George. She also dedicates a chapter to Buffalo and Niagara. The author also includes a short chapter on "Hints for Travelers." that includes remedies for seasickness dealing with mosquitoes the benefits of a waterproof cloak and the use of cologne to help you stay cool.</p> Mrs. S.S. Black leather spine and illustrated paper over board covers. There is heavy wear and rubbing to the spine edges and corners and scuffing and rubbing to the covers. The front cover is slightly bowed. The front hinge has an older crude repair with strapping tape. The binding is still together and the pages are tight. The maps are hand-colored and beautifully rendered. Early penciled owner's name "Bertie L. Westcott April 1869" heavy foxing and some staining in text tear on one leaf a good copy that has been sewn into contemporary calico over the boards which exhibits modest staining but that is sound and intact.
