Other works by the author include "The Puffiad" and "Satan or Intellect Without God." Brown paper wraps. Externally sound with the odd mark to the boards. Chipping to head and tail of the spine with some rubbing and tears. Joints weakening to the rear. Internally firmly bound. Hans bok om 1808-09-års krig var ett av de första större arbetena om kriget. Den väckte stor uppmärksamhet och översattes bl.a. till franska. Ett antal följdskrifter följde bland annat av E. von Vegesack under vars befäl Montgomery delvis varit. Runeberg som Montgomery brevväxlade med hämtade även inspiration till Fänrik Ståls sägner härifrån. unknown

THIS SET WAS FORMERLY IN THE LIBRARY OF LT.-COL. S.P. FEARON: LOOSELY INSERTED IS A T.L. FROM FEARON TO THE AUTHOR, TOGETHER WITH A.L.s. FROM THE AUTHOR IN REPLY AND FURTHER T.L.s. FROM FEARON. The correspondence refers to clarifications in the text of the first volume (in particular to the timing of the Japanese invasion of Malaya and the Fall of Singapore). Lt.-Col. Discreet ink book seller's stamp to front paste down else a tight and clean copy in an attractive jacket. near fine Unlike the first edition the reprint lacks the distinctive coloured upper textblock edge. Later dust jacket with photograph and author's biography to rear flap. This copy also mentions on the rear wrapper flap that Montgomery won the O.B.E. In 1935 so we are assuming McClelland reprinted a number of titles to capitalize on this event. See our other two titles with the same information. Also the booksellers stamp is from F.E. In this letter dated Nov 17 /27 Flagg confesses to his friend Joe Chapple his affinity for "The Night Before Christmas." Though declaring it doggeral he continues:"The verse. that came to my mind as having had a real truth for me was - don't laugh too loud - 'A Night before Xmas!' We have come thru so many cynical years it gives me a chuckle to think what would happen to anyone in a N.Y. Night Club who got up & recited that - and yet they are clinging to those . written lines real nostalgia of childhood - joy such as we will never know again."<br /><br />James Montgomery Flagg 1877-1960 was a cartoonist illustrator and portrait artist whose subjects included Mark Twain and Jack Dempsey. He is best known his political posters in particular the iconic WWI recruiting image of Uncle Sam pointing & telling the viewer: "I Want YOU for U.S. Army" which had debuted on the cover of Frank Leslie's Illustrated Newspaper in 1916. Flagg also contributed illustrations to the Saturday Evening Post. Collier's and was the highest paid illustrator of his era.<br /><br />Joe Mitchell Chapple 1867-1950 was an American publisher author and editor of The National Magazinewho wrote a series "Face to Face" including one on Flagg. Both were members of The Vigilantes formed in 1917 "an organization through which those who desire may offer service to their country with that weapon which is said to be mightier than the sword." which also included Booth Tarkington Charles Dana Gibson George Ade Mary Roberts Rinehart Hamlin Garland Douglas Fairbanks Tyrone Power and others.</p>
