Signed by the author according to previous owner with the handwriting similar to other inscriptions we've found online but it's signed only as Bill - To Charlie from Bill Christmas 1924. Charlie is Charles Russel Riley whose name is in pencil below and on a personal bookplate inside the front cover. We're inclined to think it's actually signed by McGovern but use your own judgment. Illustrated with black and white photos. Blue pictorial cloth printed in gilt and gray 462 pages. The book has modest shelfwear rubbing to corners and spine ends spine printing faded but legible light colored speckling to rear cover good hinges sound text block light age-toning to half-title frontis and title page names on front endpapers as noted no other markings. 18479Six items to Luckhurst on Board of Education letterheads; letter to Perry from Plas Dulas Llanddulas North Wales. The seven items dating from between 1936 and 1938. The seven items in good condition on lightly-aged and worn paper. With stamps of the Royal Society of Arts. The letter to Perry is a typed report of 2pp. folio and more heavily worn than the rest of the correspondence. It is dated 11 August 1936 and discusses 'schemes similar to Sandersons . in which a firm offers work experience as part of a course taken by full-time students not previously employed in industry' and 'part-time release'. He discusses the only two cases of 'works experience': the first at Keighley with Messrs Stapley's and the second between Messrs Courtaulds and the Central School of Arts and Crafts. There are also references to 'Sir Thomas Barlow who took two students of Salford School of Art into his works' Stourbridge Pick Vidgen-Jenks Leicester and Hull College. Luckhurst's three TLsS two ALsS and ANS totalling 4pp. 4to; 2pp. 12mo continue the same theme in relation to the Society's business with references to the Keighley Art School 'the unrevised report of Miss Richardson's talk' the Industrial Art Bursaries Board 'the Distribution of Diplomas by the Duke of Gloucester' and 'the sub-committee which is to administer the Travelling Bursary for a teacher of art generously provided by Mr. Sanderson'. The scarce first U.K. edition of this work in the very scarce original unclipped dust wrapper.James Montgomery Flagg's charming cartoon series following the adventures of Kitty Cobb which had originally been published in newspapers. This volume includes thirty-one cartoons of Kitty setting off from her home to New York City and finding a job working as a saleswoman in the handkerchief department in an enormous emporium. Her adventures illustrated here include going to the theatre looking for a new job and getting married. Kitty is characterised as the pinnacle of the American Girl pretty and well dressed though she comes from a humble home. Collated complete.James Montgomery Flagg was a pioneering cartoonist best remembered today for his 1917 poster of Uncle Sam during World War One. In the original publisher's quarter cloth binding with paper to the boards. Externally generally smart. Rubbing resulting in a little loss of paper to the extremities. Minor bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. Some light marks to the boards. Bookseller's label to the rear paste down. Dust wrapper is edge worn with a large chip to the rear wrap and a couple of smaller chips to the head and tail of the spine and to the folds. Large closed tear to the front wrap which has been repaired with tape to the reverse a couple of smaller tears also tape repaired to the reverse. Wraps are discoloured with some light marks and spots. Internally firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean with only a couple of light handling marks. Very Good Indeed William Heinemann hardcover
