Citant les travaux d'Alfred Binet, les racines françaises du test de QI, son développement par les Anglo-Saxons avec les travaux fondateurs de Galton, Lewis Terman, Thorndike, Yerkes et bien d'autres, ce livre constitue un vaste tour d'horizon de la notion de santé mentale à l'époque et une certaine manière objective, quantitative et pré-1945 de l'envisager du haut vers le bas. Rédigé bien avant l'appropriation des thématiques eugéniques par un certain régime allemand et son amalgame à celui-ci, il montre que l'eugénisme et la connaissance quantitative de l'être humain étaient actives dans le monde entier, au-delà des nationalités et des associations politiques. Il commence par l’œuvre eugéniste et scientifique des États-Unis, "un mouvement qui s'est produit après celui de la France" (p.1) mais passé alors à l'avant-garde de l'eugénisme mondial, pour passer au reste de l'Occident et du monde. À noter des passages sur la France, le Brésil, ainsi que sur des enfants mentionnés l'espace d'une page à peine mais extrêmement pertinents aujourd'hui : les "surnormaux" (qu'on appellerait maintenant des surdoués).

19301237<p>This is Inuit Woman With Dog by the Canadian sculptor Eugenia Berlin 1905-2003. <br />Signed by the artist.</p><p><br />4" x 5 1/4" weight 2 1/2 lbs Cast 1926-1930. There is a tiny chip out of the dog's ear. And there are a couple of small stains on the tops of the legs--those can be covered. It needs to be professionally cleaned.</p><p><br />Artist Bio</p><p><em>Eugenia Berlin was a Russian-born Canadian sculptor painter designer and director. Berlin was born in Kharkov studied sculpture drawing and design at the L'Ecole des Beaux Arts in Geneva under James Vibert and Valentine Métein-Gilliard and privately under William Métein. In 1925 she moved to Toronto and attended Central Technical School in Toronto studying under Elizabeth Wyn Wood and Bobs Coghill Haworth. At the Chouinard School of Art Berlin studied under Alexander Archipenko and attended the Alexander Archipenko School in New York City. </em></p><p><em>Berlin's primary discipline was sculpture but she also worked in mixed media pottery watercolour and painting.
