Very few books were printed on colored paper in France towards the end of the 19th century, especially by provincial presses. 4to. Attractively bound in recent quarter calf and marbled boards, original wraps bound in. Fine and bright. An excellent copy of a rare book.

Ma verrebbe certamente inclusa anche se l'elenco si dovesse restringere a soli 5 modelli... E forse anche a 3. Perché quando è commercializzata, nel 1969, cambia radicalmente il panorama motociclistico mondiale. Se nella decade precedente le due ruote rappresentavano un ben magro sostituto dell'automobile, un veicolo spartano e - a parte rare eccezioni - con poco fascino, con la Four avviene una vera e propria rivoluzione. Adesso la motocicletta - questa motocicletta - viene addirittura preferita alla spider in quanto veicolo capace di far sognare gli appassionati grazie al suo look modernissimo e alla sue elevatissime prestazioni: per la prima volta vengono annunciati i 200 Km/h di serie. La dotazione tecnica è straordinaria, con il motore a 4 cilindri (fino ad allora riservato alle competizioni), il freno anteriore a disco e il cambio a 5 marce. In più c'è l'avviamento elettrico, una componente che da sola spinge all'acquisto anche tanti "motociclisti" che fino al giorno prima mai si sarebbero sognati di abbandonare le 4 ruote.

Garnier Frères - sans date - complet en 4 volumes - In-12 - Broché -XLIII-331, 379, 368 & 270 pages, y compris index - En partie non coupé - Tomes III & IV 237 & 307 pages - Propres Homme politique et écrivain français qui rapporta dans ses Mémoires sa destinée exceptionnelle. Paul de Gondi, futur cardinal de Retz, fut destiné à accéder au siège archiépiscopal de Paris, que son oncle occupait. Il fut ainsi orienté vers des études de théologie, qu'il réussit brillamment. Pourtant, il s'intéressait beaucoup plus aux conspirateurs et aux héros de l'Antiquité qu'aux saints hommes. À vingt ans, il écrivit un petit ouvrage sur le conspirateur Gian Luigi Fiesco (1655). Il avait déjà choisi une voie bien différente de celle qu'on avait prévue pour lui. Il participa en 1636 à la conspiration menée par le comte de Soissons contre Richelieu. Il dut attendre la mort du cardinal et de LouisXIII pour être nommé coadjuteur de l'archevêque de Paris par la régente Anne d'Autriche, en 1643. Sa réputation d'agitateur lui attira très tôt de fortes inimitiés. Quand débuta la Fronde, en 1648, il fut au premier rang des frondeurs contre Mazarin, essayant d'imposer son autorité aux différents groupes d'insurgés. En 1650, il s'allia à la reine contre Condé; lorsque celui-ci fut défait par Turenne, Paul de Gondi devint cardinal. Mais au retour de Mazarin, quand la Fronde reprit, il fut désavoué et emprisonné. En 1654, il devint de droit successeur de son oncle, décédé, sur le siège archiépiscopal. Mazarin réclama sa démission, en vain. Retz réussit à s'évader de sa prison, et trouva refuge en Espagne, en Italie, en Flandre enfin. Il mena une vie errante jusqu'à la mort de Mazarin. Il accepta alors de démissionner du siège d'archevêque, réclamant en échange l'abbaye de Saint-Denis et l'autorisation de revenir en France. Exilé dans son château de Commercy, il fut chargé de participer aux conclaves en 1662, 1665, 1668, 1670. Puis il se consacra à l'écriture des Mémoires. Témoignage historique important, cet ouvrage est parfois plus une reconstruction de sa vie qu'une fidèle narration. Œuvre agréable à lire, spontanée, libre, mais aussi séditieuse et favorable à l'esprit de révolte, elle n'a pas arrangé la réputation de ce conspirateur. Elle fut publiée pendant la Régence (1717).

"Mieux sans doute que les grandes mondaines que nous impose la littérature officielle, madame de Nemours nous offre le régal d'un langage féminin parvenu à son état de perfection".
