1900WRCAM55638N.p. but Holland 1900. Chromolithographic poster three sheets joined together 49 1/2 x 33 1/2 inches in total. A bit of slight wrinkling. Near fine. Linen- backed. A stunning poster advertising the Dutch publication of a Buffalo Bill serial magazine showing the front cover of twelve issues packed with Western excitement. The serial is entitled THE BUFFALO BILL ORIGINAL STORIES OF THE FAR WEST and was printed in six colors and published every two weeks. This poster actually advertises another serial magazine featuring the adventures of detective Nick Carter and four of those issues are featured in the corners of this poster. But the star of the show is Buffalo Bill with the Dutch caption text asking rhetorically "Wie kent niet den wereldberoemden held van de Far-West Buffalo Bill" "who does not know the world famous hero of the Far West Buffalo Bill" A dozen Buffalo Bill covers are featured with the titles given in English and in Dutch. Titles include "Buffalo Bill and Dark Despard"; "The Warbler from Whistleville"; "Buffalo Bill and the Blue Dwarfs"; and "Black Eagle The Outlawed Chief" among others. The text announces that the magazine would introduce the reader to the mysterious customs of Indian tribes and bring not only pleasure but information. As opposed to Buffalo Bill the Nick Carter stories are set in major East Coast and Midwestern cities but introduce some exoticism by featuring stories involving the Chinese or strange religious sects.

By the turn of the century Buffalo Bill had already mounted several tours of England and the Continent and this striking poster is ample evidence of his great popularity overseas and the European thirst for adventure stories set in the American West. unknown books

1902WRCAM35927London: Partington 1902. 4xiv3-64xv-xviii pp. Quarto. Original color pictorial wrappers. Wrappers edgeworn chipped along spine. Text lightly tanned. In fair condition. Designated "10th Edition" on the titlepage. A program for Buffalo Bill's Wild West show likely produced to coincide with the show's 1903 tour of Europe. All the advertisements are for British products and the price of the program is six pence. The show was performed at the Olympia Theatre and the floor plan for the arena is given as are instructions for travelling to the venue by rail. Most of the text is devoted to biographical information on Buffalo Bill and tales of thrills in the American West but the official program for the British production is also given. The show began with "The Star-Spangled Banner" and a procession by the "Rough Riders of the World" led by Cody on horseback followed by a Pony Express rider "Western Prairie Girls" assorted Indians cavalry veterans and more until finally Cody himself took the stage at the end of the first part of the show. The second half featured a recreation of the Battle of San Juan Hill from the Spanish- American War. The program also takes care to note that "Colonel Cody uses Winchester Rifles and Winchester Ammunition exclusively in all his exhibitions." A nice artifact of the Wild West show at the height of its international fame complete with Buffalo Bill's personal product endorsements and a celebration of the American victory over the Spanish in Cuba. 19094522Philadelphia: The Roycroft Press 1909. First Edition. 8vo 9" x 7" 8 42pp. Letterpress printed brown wrappers with brown and red lettering and embossed illustration. Leather string tie bound via three punch holes. Interesting and scarce custom print job by The Roycroft Press to commemorate a dinner sponsored by Rodman Wanamaker. The purpose of this gathering was to propose the building of a large statue of a Native American at the New York Harbor in the effort to honor and preserve the culture and heritage of the North American Indian. The dinner also honored Buffalo Bill who spoke to those efforts of preservation. Other attendees included Frederick Remington Pawnee Bill and Homer Davenport.
Beautifully designed the booklet contains two mounted photographs and is printed in red and black throughout with initials designed by Dard Hunter. The limitation is likely that of the number of attendees of the dinner plus a few extra Paul Jackson roycroftbooks.
Very good with chipping and wear to edges of wraps with triangle chip to upper corner of rear cover and blank endpaper. Clean and sound internally.
Not in McKenna. The Roycroft Press unknown

Slim 4to publisher's original pictorial color paper wrappers staple-bound. New York: Fless and Ridge 1895. Some light rubbing to exterior but still a near fine copy remarkably clean and well-preserved.

An interesting and scarce piece of Victorian Americana -- a program from Buffalo Bill's 1895 show in the Greater New York area. The two-page programme of events is followed by historical sketches of Western Americana. Buffalo Bill was a figurehead of the American Old West his shows displaying cowboy themes and escapades as well as tales from the American Civil War and Indian Wars. Though it was a large and successful show the expenses were so high that the endeavour lost money.

Fless and Ridge unknown
