Esponente del socialismo antiautoritario, Proudhon partecipa alla vita e al dibattito politici del suo tempo con progetti di riforma economico-sociale, un'interessante attività giornalistica e un vasto e complesso lavoro di indagine teorica che spazia su piani molteplici (antropologico, economico, politico, ecc.) e mira a individuare le cause profonde del male sociale. Questo libro ricostruisce il percorso teorico del Bisontino a partire dal 1848, anno segnato dall'imporsi violento della questione sociale. Prendendo avvio dagli scritti successivi al Système des contradictions économiques, il libro esamina la fase anarchica del pensiero proudhoniano, contraddistinta dall'elaborazione del concetto di anarchia positiva (o società senza governo), e la fase federalista, più aperta a una considerazione problematica del potere e incentrata sull'elevazione del foedus a momento costitutivo di un ordine politico pensato come dinamico e intrinsecamente plurale. Dalla ricostruzione ciò che soprattutto emerge è la centralità indiscussa del tema della giustizia, cui si accompagna il permanere immutato, nel passaggio dall'anarchismo al federalismo, di una negazione della sovranità che si esprime nella messa in questione degli strumenti classici attraverso cui il potere (anche democratico) si legittima e l'obbligo politico si fonda. Spicca, infine, la peculiarità del federalismo proudhoniano, la sua irriducibilità a semplice teoria dello Stato federale. Autori: Daniela Andreatta.

Frédéric Bastiat 1801-1850 whom Schumpeter called "the most brilliant economic journalist who ever lived" p. 500 was a theorist and advocate of classical liberalism. From 1849 to 1850 the two polemicists clashed in rival journals over the status of interest. Perhaps unsurprisingly Bastiat defends interest as an appropriate payment for the use of capital while Proudhon castigates it as a means of allowing more wealth to accumulate in the grasping hands of the capitalist. Near-contemporary blue quarter morocco spine lettered and with compartments panelled in gilt raised bands marbled paper sides and endpapers edges sprinkled black red silk bookmarker.
