About The Book : The Kath?sarits?gara is a large work. Each book comprises a number of stories loosely strung together, by being narrated for the recreation or information of the same individuals, or arising out of their adventures. These are Udayana, king of Kosambi, and his son Naravahanadatta. The marriage of the latter with various damsels of terrestrial or celestial origin, and his elevation to the rank of king of the Vidyadharas, a class of heavenly spirits, are the leading topics of most of the books; but they merely constitute the skeleton of the composition, the substance being made up of stories growing out of these circumstances, or springing from one another with an ingenuity of intricacy which is one of the great charms of all such collections. About The Author : Somadeva Bhatta was an eleventh century writer from Kashmir. Not much is known about him except that his father's name was Rama and he composed his work (probably during the years 1063-81 CE) for the entertainment of the queen Suryamati, a princess of Jalandhara and wife of King Ananta of Kashmir. The queen was quite distraught as it was a time when the political situation in Kashmir was 'one of discontent, intrigue, bloodshed and despair'.Though he was a Shaiva Brahmin, he was respectful of Buddhism and some of the tales in the Kathasaritsagara show Buddhist influences.Revised by Pansikar Wasudev Laxman Sastri has written famous books, like, Panchdashi with commentary; Yajnavalkya with the commentary, Kavyapradipa (An old and rare book); and many more, the master piece of all is The Ramayana of Valmeki a curious amalgamation of the aforementioned three mediums of teaching. International Library of Political Studies (Volume 22) "How do those living in diaspora form their own national and transnational identity? The Greek Idea offers a new critical paradigm from which to explore these identities. Drawing upon postcolonial theory, Maria Koundoura addresses and analyzes the cultural material that produced Greeces representation as both Europes origin and "other". The long association of Greece and English Literature began with English travellers' "discovery" of Greece in the late-eighteenth century and the reinforcement of the myth which placed Greece as the location of Western culture. However Greece now finds itself on the boundary of a Europe which had originally placed it at the center. Koundoura maps what this dual representation signifies for Greeks, both national and diasporic. In doing so she touches on England, Greece, the United States, Australia and twentieth century diaspora cultures. For scholars of postcolonial, English, European, Balkan, Modern Greek, and Diaspora studies this fascinating contribution to the growing area of transnational culture studies opens up the critical discourse in their field." 214p.bibiography index.
