Original printed patterned covers and printed title labels. Illustrated throughout with bw wood engravings and what appears to be the occasional copper engraving along with a very few color woodblock prints. A very interesting and exhaustive look at the customs of a Tôkyô deep into the process of transition from the traditional to the "modern" amalgam of cultural elements that was 20th century Japan. Written on the eve of the Russo-Japanese War which would hasten that transition. Well known as an important piece of early scholarship on the subject this original edition is by no means common. There is some research on the history of Turks in Britain but still many people do not know that 'Güvercinlik' (pigeon-loft) is the term given by the first Turkish arrivals to Trafalgar Square, London. It is where the first Turks (mainly Turkish Cypriots) used to meet. This was their one and only meeting point out of necessity as they did not have any associations, cafes or restaurants of their own to gather and socialise. Although it is known that some Turkish Cypriots arrived in London in the 1920's and 1930's Turkish Cypriots started coming in bigger numbers to London in the 1940's and 'Güvercinlik' is the place where their journey started.

Elle comprend pour chaque document, le texte en chinois avec en regard celui de la langue du pays en question. Le premier volume est consacré à la Russie, au protocole international, à la Grande-Bretagne, aux États-Unis, à la France et l'accord sur les tarifs douaniers à l'importation. Le second volume porte sur la Belgique, la Suède et la Norvège, l'Allemagne, le Portugal, le Danemark, les Pays-Bas, l'Espagne, 'Italie, l'Autriche-Hongrie, le Japon, le Pérou, le Brésil, l'État indépendant du Congo, le Mexique, et la Corée. Cet ouvrage est publié par le Service des douanes maritimes chinoises. Il est créé en 1854 pour faire face à l'augmentation des relations commerciales de la Chine impériale avec le reste du monde, notamment après la guerre sino-japonaise.
