1977004498New York: Stein and Day 1977. Hardcover. Near Fine/Poor. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. There is a 4-page handwritten story on this books back end papers about bombing Japan in a B-29 by a Radar-Navigator-Bombardier. Here are a few excerpts: "When it was decided that a atomic bomb might be feasible plans were made to form a bomb group to handle this bomb. Using highly trained combat crews was ruled out as they were deemed unexpendable so they gathered up all the misfits they could muster in the air force and sent them to Wendover Field in Utah A Hell Hole to make up the 509th Bomb Group."; "He Tibbets screwed up the plane he flew over to Tinian with and he wanted my plane since it was the latest model out. but he did not get it because I has so much electronic equipment on it and the scientists on the island ho worked on this project did not know if the harmonics from the equipment would set off the bomb in the airplane on take off. They used the plane in the next revetment called the "Purple Shaft". The bomb was not armed until 100 miles at sea in order to protect everyone on Tinian and Saipan. This was the first time an A bomb was ever in an airplane.". The writer Michael Gissler - I'm not sure if I have properly deciphered his handwritten signature the Radar Navigator-Bombardier on the B-29 Bomber named "Peachy" also describes Fire Raids on Japan a near miss by another B-29 and a mission flown the day after Hiroshima when they flew over the city and took pictures of the damage. He described it as follows: "The pressure rings could be seen starting in the center of the impact outward to the base of Mount Futaba. The damage was very great but not in distance as was expected. This was a small city in size but there were not many cities left in Japan that did not taste our bombs.". Gilt lettering on red & black covers in a black dust jacket. 8vo 327pp. The dust jacket is "worn & torn".

Stein and Day hardcover
