This visit took place in May 1939 as part of a major North American tour at a time when another major war in Europe seemed imminent. Queen Elizabeth II took part in the tour and is said to have 'lost her heart to Canada and Canadians' as a result. Oblong 9" x 12". Each page contains a black and white reproduction of a photo of a noteworthy site in the Victoria region or up-island. Some noteworthy details include angle parking on Douglas and Yates, jaunty men's golf fashions of the day, a marvelous view of Saanich farm lands from Mount Douglas, the Italian gardens and residence of Mr. Butchart, tall timber along Cowichan Bay Road, the Malahat Drive alongside Goldstream, and a day's catch of huge fish near Victoria. Due fotografie originali in b/n vintage, stampa alla gelatina ai sali d'argento, didascalia manoscritta al verso, misura cm 14 x 9 montata su cartoncino bordato cm 23 x 16,5 ritrae un panorama del paese di Caldirola nella Val Curone; la seconda foto cm 14 x 9 montata su cartoncino bordato cm 22,7 x 16,7 ritrae l'albergo La Gioia a caldirola visto dal monte laterale alla spianata su cui sorgeva l'albergo. Un gruppo di persone guarda in direzione del fotografo. L'albergo fu inaugurato nel 1934 per volonta' di Agostino Raffo che lo fece costruire sfidando le difficolta' dovute all'insolita collocazione e alla mancanza di una via d'accesso poi fatta costruire per arrivare all'albergo. La foto mostra la spianata con il solo albergo prima della costruzione successiva delle ville attigue.
