FIRST EDITION of this novel which, way ahead of its time, discusses the right of women to enjoy sexual pleasure. A LARGE-PAPER COPY, ONE OF ONLY TEN PRINTED ON FINE HANDMADE DUTCH LAID PAPER (the rest of the edition was printed on cheap wood-pulp paper.) Also a fascinating association copy, from the library of MARCEL GOMPEL, a Jewish professor at the College de France who became a hero of the French resistance and was finally tortured and executed on orders from Klaus Barbie. When Barbie came to trial, the prosecutors used Gompel's case as a particularly clear and egregious example of his guilt of crimes against humanity. 8vo. Beautifully bound (surely for Gompel) in half morocco and marbled boards. Top edge gilt, other edges uncut. Original covers and spine preserved. Silk ribbon page marker. FINE AND BRIGHT, with no defects. A truly unique book.
xii, 300 pages. Appendices, footnotes, bibliography. Profusely illustrated with black and white reproductions of archival photos, documents and maps. "The name Degrelle remains controversial in Belgium and abroad due to his WWII service in the German military. Was he a traitor to his nation or a hero for anti-Communism? This work sets out the history of Degrelle and the Rex political movement, along with its eventual military collaboration after the 1940 German occupation of Belgium. Also covers rival movements and iimportant personalities, along with an extensive list of sources. Provides the most extensive account of the campaigns of the Legion Wallonie and its successor SS-Sturmbrigade/Division Wallonien (28th SS Freiw.-Gren. Division) published in English. Presents fascinating information about Degrelle's Spanish volunteers, and obscure Walloon military formations. A must-have for military historians, afficianados of rare photos, and collectors of materials on the SS." - paraphrased from dust jacket. Clean, bright and unmarked with very light wear. Dust jacket now preserved in archival-grade Brodart. An excellent copy of this superb reference. Book
Exhibition catalog is in excellent condition with one small mar at upper spine. Binding is solid and square, covers have sharp corners, exterior shows no blemishes, text/interior is clean and free of marking of any kind. Organized by the Museum of Modern Art in Paris with the cooperation of the foundation of Georges Rouault, the Archives of Henri Matisse with the coordination of the Brain trust, Inc. of Tokyo. Text is in French and Japanese. 198 pages with a great many full size prints from both artists. In the spring of 2006, the Rouault Foundation's rediscovery of Henri Matisse's letters to Georges Rouault, coming to respond to Rouault's letters that have remained classified in the Henri Matisse Archives, shed light on the "lively sympathy of art" which linked the two artists throughout their lives, from their beginnings in the studio of Gustave Moreau at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris, at the end of the XIXth century, until their last meeting, in Cimiez, in February 1953. The correspondence found to date opened in the summer of 1906, when Matisse resided in Collioure, to resume in the 1930s; while Rouault enters into professional contact with Matisse's son, Pierre, who devotes three special exhibitions to Rouault in his New York gallery between 1933 and 1947; it intensified during the Second World War. Theatrical projects, personal health concerns, artistic considerations, exhibition projects, resurgence of memories of their youth intermingle in the letters of the 40s and 50s. Carried out in close collaboration with the Georges Rouault Foundation and the Henri Matisse Archives, the presentation of the correspondence between Rouault and Matisse testifies to this friendly and artistic network. While the exchange of letters was lacking, especially between 1907 and the 1930s, chronological research and archives made it possible to reconstruct the seemingly relaxed framework of their friendship, bringing to light many events which on the contrary attest to its constancy: numerous exhibitions, participation in the first "Jury of the Painters' Prize" in June 1923, at the Ballets russes, collaboration with T?riade for the review Verve. This edition, an original contribution to the history of art, highlights the highlights of their correspondence by articulating multiple meeting points, and sheds light on the parallel journey of two artists who have asserted their own personalities from a point of common departure: the "erotic symbolism" (Philippe Dagen) of Gustave Moreau, figure of their youth which holds a central place until the evening of their life.

151 pages. Artist Robin Wood met Anne McCaffrey at the first totally Pern-oriented convention in the U.S. in 1984. However, prior to that, Robin had designed and executed portraits of Pern characters for the Mayfair Games board game, Dragonriders of Pern. In the ensuing conversation about what the characters from the Pern books really looked like, this book was conceived. Four years of work followed, with Robin and Anne comparing notes at conventions, discussing details of Pern and its people, passing letters and sketches across the Atlantic and arriving at mutually satisfactory conclusions. This represents the first, authentic look at the people of Pern, a collaboration of the finest kind between two of the finest artists available today. Very attractively illustrated glossy dust jacket in wonderful condition with minimal signs of rubbing at top and bottom edges and 3/4" tear to top of back panel. Book could pass as new. A superior copy of this enchanting work. Book

A clean, unmarked book with a tight binding. Clean, sharp edges. 160 pages. 6 1/2"w x 9"h. From the publisher: "Since the 1970s, Vancouver-based multimedia artist Hank Bull has acted as a connecting figure between artists and artistic communities internationally. Inspired initially by experimental music, mail art, Fluxus, and the absurdist performances associated with Dada and pataphysics, much of his practice has been ephemeral and dialogic, produced for underground audiences in artist-run and improvised contexts. Performance, communication, and the building of networks have thus often eclipsed the production of material things. Yet, material things have played an important role in his career - as documents, as vehicles of communication, as props, and as aesthetic objects in their own right. This career overview considers the material traces of a life lived as art, reconfiguring the immense and varied collection of the artist as a sculptural installation. Running throughout Bull s practice is a re-examination of the notions of distributed authorship, an affront to received ideas ever more pertinent in the age of information technology. Hank Bull was born in Calgary, Alberta in 1949 and now lives in Vancouver. A multimedia artist as well as an arts administrator, he has been a member of the legendary Western Front Society since 1973. He is the also the founder and executive director of Centre A (Vancouver International Centre for Contemporary Asian Art) since 1999. His works have been collected by the National Gallery of Canada and many private collectors."
