Walter Hood Fitch 1817–1892 was a botanical illustrator born in Glasgow Scotland who executed some 10000 drawings for various publications. His work in colour lithograph including 2700 illustrations for Curtis's Botanical Magazine produced up to 200 plates per year. His nephew John Nugent Fitch 1840–1927 also produced illustrations for Curtis's Botanical Magazine. Vincent Brooks 1815-1885 was London based printer and lithographer whose firm took over Day & Son in 1867 to form Vincent Brooks Day & Son. Bergenia purpurascens the purple bergenia is a species of flowering plant in the family Saxifragaceae. This species is a perennial herb and is native to Nepal the eastern Himalayas Assam Tibet south-central China and Myanmar. Useful feature in the garden is the visual interest that its foliage provides by turning a deep beet red during the winter.
