Light soiling to matte white areas lightly toned colors vivid. $350. Possibly the work of a Thomas Hood this print is in the style of John Doyle 1797-1868 the leading English caricaturist of the 1830s to 1850s. It is commentary on the work of the 1832 Royal Commission into the Operation of the Poor Laws which drafted the Poor Law Amendment Act. Passed in 1834 it created the system of laws and workhouses described by Dickens. unknown books
