Illustrated throughout the text with eighty seven original designs by the author. Collated complete. Thomas Hood was a nineteenth century English poet and humourist best known for 'The Song of the Shirt' and 'The Bridge of Sighs'. He also wrote for Punch and The London Magazine. In Maclehose signed straight grain morocco binding. Externally sound. There is some bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. There is some rubbing to the leather in these areas and to the spine. Internally firmly bound. The pages are bright and clean with the very occasional spot. Good Edward Moxon & Co. hardcover

A set of two hardcover books bound in full polished calf with gilt-decorated spines. gilt dentelles gilt top edges and marbled endpapers. Very good condition! A fewight scuff marks on the spines slightly marring the gilt decorations but not severely disrupting their overall overall beauty. Edges lightly rubbed and tiny age spots on the boards. On volume II cracks are just starting to form where the front cover attaches to the spine but the board is still securely enough attached for normal handling. A previous owner's bookplate is inside both volumes' back covers. In volume II the bottom corners are chipped off pages 229-232 not affecting the text. Otherwise text unmarked and binding secure in both volumes. From the library of Sir David Salomons 1797-1873 the first Jewish Sheriff of London and later Mayor of London. Both volumes contain his bookplate. Illustrations from designs by John Leech. Henry Colburn unknown
